I thought I ought to put down a few guidelines for when we do business together. I am not a solicitor and I don't expect you are either so here are just a few thoughts.
My services are always charged at an hourly rate. I break this charge into 30 minute blocks.
It is often cheaper for you if I take the system back to my office/ workshop for things such as reinstallation’s. That way I don't have to sit in your office watching blue lines slowly going across screens whilst twiddling my thumbs and I can do something useful at the same time as fixing your system. I obviously don't charge the full hourly rate for this so it works out cheaper for you and stops me from cluttering up your home/office!
The most important thing about your system is the data on it and I am diligent about keeping this safe and also private!. It is obviously ideal if you take backups before I come but if you don't, or can't, rest assured I will do everything I can to safeguard it. Hardware and programs can be replaced - data and photos often can't.
If your system has crashed and needs reloading providing there are no major hard drive problems I will normally do a complete copy of your hard drive and will use this to restore your data after I have reloaded windows. Any data on my spare drive is treated as strictly confidential and is erased and overwritten after this period.
Even if your PC or laptop won't start, or has other major problems I can almost always get your data back. Even if you have major hard drive problems I can usually restore your data, unless the hard drive is completely stuffed, which is unusual but does sometimes happen, so you have been warned!
The term no-fix no-fee has very far reaching implications but this is what I understand by it. If I come to fix your system and it is mutually decided that the cost of repairs will outweigh the value of the system then you will be charged for diagnostic time spent up to that point.
If I come to fix you system and am unable to through lack of knowledge or ability you will not be charged for the visit and diagnostic time.
If I come to fix your system but am prevented from doing so by the absence of software or driver CD-ROMs or product keys you will be charged for diagnostic time spent up to that point.
If I come to fix your system and after diagnosis of a failed or faulty part you decide not to go ahead with replacement of that part you will be charged for diagnostic time spent up to that point.
If I come to fix your system and am unable to resolve the problem due to circumstances beyond my control, such as faulty BT. lines or inappropriate equipment having been bought, you will be charged for time spent up to that point.
So the bottom line is this. I will do all I can to resolve your problems and will charge a reasonable fee for doing so. Most of my business comes from recommendations and I want to keep it that way! As recommendations and repeat custom is important to me.
